Family Law Agreement

Working out Agreements

People can and do resolve their family law disputes without going to court.  Both parties must be willing to enter serious negotiations.  This includes providing documents and information.  Mediation and Collaborative Family Law can assist in negotiating arrangements.

A good, reliable agreement should be reasonably fair and people should make informed decisions.

There are a variety of types of agreements:

  • a separation agreement when a spousal relationship ends
  • a paternity agreement for parents (who are not spouses) to make arrangements for children
  • a marriage contract or a cohabitation contract, to agree on things before there is a breakdown
